To add a new email address you can send from, please create a "channel" for it.
Go to your Profile Page and click "Add a new channel":
A popup will show up, with a form that might look a bit scary. But don't worry, you only need to do this once, and we're here to explain and help:
Here are the form sections, and what they mean:
Channel name and color - this is for you to recognize that channel inside Recurr; for example, for my personal Gmail address I'd choose the name "Personal Gmail" and the color red;
Email Settings - this defines where the emails will be sent from; enter your email address and choose your email provider (Gmail, Outlook, Fastmail etc); as soon as you choose your email provider, two new sections will show up:
Server Settings - this defines the SMTP server which will be used to send the emails; if you've chosen a standard email provider, these will already be filled in, nothing to do; if you have a different email provider, please put in your SMTP server credentials;
Login Settings - this defines the user & password used to access the SMTP server above; in most cases, the username is your email, and the password is your email password; however, for increased security, you should consider using an app password, for the providers who support it; click the link in the description and follow the steps there:
That's it - click "Save Channel" in the bottom-right corner of the popup. Our system will test the credentials to see they're working. You will either get an error message to fix the credentials, or the popup will close, so you can start sending recurring emails.
Any more related questions:
Not using any of the email providers above? Try to find your SMTP credentials by googling "email-provider-name SMTP credentials". If you still can't find them, please use our chat widget, we're happy to look that up for you.
Why use an app password? Because it's more secure. That way, you don't give us access to your email password, that has access to send emails, contact, calendars. You only give us an app password that can do one thing - send emails. If you decide to stop access to us, you can just go in your email provider settings, delete that password and poof, we lose access.
Why not use the Gmail API / Outlook API / FastMail API etc? Good question. Because those are limited, and change all the time. For example, a few months after we implemented the Gmail API, Google started asking everybody who was using their API for emails to pay a third-party audit, which would be about $50.000. Pricing for API usage also changes, and we don't want to change our pricing to you, in response to API changes. By contrast, SMTP is a free and open protocol, that all email providers have implemented - it's part of how email works. It's a few more steps to set up, but afterwards it's smooth-sailing.
